Steps and Protocols for Canceling Before and After the Rental Start Date

Navigating cancellations can be necessary when plans change. Here's a streamlined guide to help you efficiently cancel a rental on ShareGrid.

Communication is crucial. If you need to cancel, please let the other party know immediately. Early communication facilitates a smoother adjustment for everyone involved.

Cancellation Procedures:

  1. Day of or After Start Date:

    • Owner's Role: Only the owner has the ability to finalize a cancellation once the rental period has started. If a renter wishes to cancel the rental on the day of pickup, the cancellation button is only accessible on the owner's side. Depending on the type of cancellation, the renter may be charged a fee. Please refer to section 4 below for more details.

       

      Canceling on a renter is strongly discouraged as it can significantly disrupt their plans. Depending on the circumstances of the cancellation, you may be charged a fee. For example, if you cancel within 2 hours of pickup, you may be responsible for covering the renter's transportation costs.

  2. Before the Start Date:

    • Renter's Role: While on the rental confirmation page, click 'Cancel Rental' to initiate a cancellation. Depending on the type of cancellation, you may be subject to a fee. Please refer to section 4 below for more details.

  3. Unconfirmed Rental Requests:

    • Identification: These appear as 'Waiting for [owner's name],' indicating the owner still needs to confirm the booking.

    • Cancellation: Select 'Cancel' in the rental conversation.

    • Penalties: There are no charges for canceling unconfirmed requests.

  4. Confirmed Rentals:

    • Process: Access the rental conversation and press 'Cancel.'

    • Canceled within two hours of rental booking: Any charges will be voided and refunded within 2-3 business days.

    • More than 48 Hours Before Start: Any charges will be voided and refunded within 2-3 business days.

    • Within 48 Hours: At the owner's discretion, cancellations may incur a fee of up to 50% of the rental cost, excluding ShareGrid's non-refundable Community Fee.

    • Within 24 Hours: Depending on the owner's policy, up to 100% of the rental fee may be charged.

  5. No-Shows:

    • Penalty: Failing to cancel or not pick up the rental may result in a charge for the entire rental fee at the owner's discretion.
