Plans change, and when they do, clear communication helps everyone. If you need to cancel, notify the other party as soon as possible and keep records of your messages in case support needs to step in.
Before the rental start date
Renters: How to cancel
Go to your rental confirmation page.
Click the red Cancel Rental button.
Confirm the cancellation.
Cancellation fees may apply depending on timing (see fee breakdown below).
Unconfirmed rental requests (rentals that are not yet booked)
Status: “Waiting for [Owner’s Name]”
Click Cancel on the confirmation page.
No fees apply for canceling unconfirmed requests.
Timing for Refunds on Confirmed Rentals (Booked Rentals)
Within 2 hours of booking:
Full refund. Charges are voided.
More than 48 hours before pickup:
Full refund (minus the non-refundable Community Fee).
Within 48 hours of pickup:
The owner may charge up to 50% of the rental cost (Community Fee excluded).
Within 24 hours of pickup:
The owner may charge up to 100% of the rental cost (Community Fee excluded).
Refunds typically process within 2–3 business days, depending on your payment method.
Day of pickup or after the rental has started
Owners: How cancellations work
Once the rental start date has arrived:
Only the owner can cancel the rental.
If a renter requests cancellation, they must message the owner.
Depending on the cancellation reason and timing:
Fees may be applied at the owner’s discretion.
IMPORTANT: For owner-applied cancellation fees, owners must contact ShareGrid Support after canceling so the fee can be processed.
Owner note: Canceling on a renter (without their request) is strongly discouraged and may result in penalties. For example, canceling close to pickup time may require the renter to cover the renter's transportation costs.
No-Shows
If a renter does not cancel and fails to pick up the gear:
The owner may charge up to the full rental amount.
Custom Cancellation Fees (Owners)
Owners may set custom cancellation percentages for:
Same-day cancellations
Day-before cancellations
These fees:
Are manually applied by ShareGrid support staff. Owners must contact ShareGrid Support after canceling to have the fee processed.
Cannot exceed ShareGrid’s standard fee limits listed above
Handling Unresponsive Owners
If you can’t reach the owner:
Message them through ShareGrid first.
Keep records of all communication attempts.
Contact ShareGrid Support with details.
What support may do:
Attempt to contact the owner
Cancel the rental if the owner remains unresponsive
Issue a full refund when appropriate
Insurance Note
Short-term insurance policies are non-refundable after purchase.
