Sometimes your plans change, and you need to keep gear longer than expected. Here are the steps if you need to change the dates of your rental.
Please contact the equipment owner and ask to extend your rental. As long as the equipment is available for the extended period and the owner agrees to the extension, they can adjust the dates of the rental using the Edit Order button. Extensions are entirely at the owner's discretion: if they refuse your request, you must return the gear on the existing return date.
Your coverage for the rental must be valid for the extended period. If you're using Damage Only or Damage + Theft coverage, the coverage will be extended automatically and a charge will be added for the extra days.
If you're using a Short-Term, Annual or Third-Party policy, you'll need to make sure that the policy is valid for the whole period that you want to keep the gear, including your drop-off days. If your policy is not valid for the extra days, you will receive an error message when the owner tries to extend the rental. Please contact your insurance company if you need to change the dates of your policy.
Once the owner has extended the rental dates, our system will recalculate the cost of the rental automatically, and this will be updated in the Order Summary section.
If a renter requests an extension, you can change the dates on the rental yourself, and our system will automatically recalculate the cost of the rental. Here are the steps:
- Open the rental conversation from your message inbox
- Click the Edit Order button
- Select Change / Extend Dates (See below)
- Choose the new return date
- Click Apply
Once the extension is applied, our system will recalculate the cost of the rental automatically. By default, the system will add a charge at the full day-rate of the item for each day that is added to the rental.
If you do not want to charge the full day-rate for the extended period, you can remove this additional charge by clicking the red 'X' next to the charge in the Order Summary:
When this is removed, the rental charge will be calculated including our standard multi-day discounts. In other words, the charge will be the same as if the renter had originally booked the rental up to the new return day.
