How are local-pickup rental shoot days and prices calculated?

Learn how ShareGrid pricing works for local-pickup rentals, including shoot days, multi-day discounts, the full-week rule, and weekend discounts.

Updated today

ShareGrid offers industry-standard multi-day discounts that deliver great value for renters while helping owners get more bookings.

Important: The following rules apply only to local pickup equipment rentals and do not apply to shipped rentals. Furthermore, vehicle and location rentals are not eligible for multi-day discounts and are charged at their daily rate, which includes both pick-up and drop-off dates.

Pick-up and drop-off days are free (local pickup equipment rentals only)

For equipment rentals, pickup and return days do not count as shoot days. These days are intended for checking, prepping, and transporting gear, not filming.

Unless you arrange otherwise with the owner, standard times are:

  • Pick up: after 2:00 PM on the start date

  • Return: by 12:00 PM (noon) on the return date

If you want to pick up, shoot, and return all in one day, you must book your rental that way.

Shoot days are what you pay for

Your equipment rental price is based on the number of shoot days, which are the days you actively use the equipment. Pickup and drop-off days are excluded from shoot-day charges.

Example: One-day shoot over three calendar days

You’ll pay the 1 shoot-day rate.

  • Day 1: Pick up (after 2 PM) — Free

  • Day 2: Shoot day — Charged (1 shoot day)

  • Day 3: Return (by noon) — Free

Example: Three-day shoot over five calendar days

You’ll pay the 3 shoot-day rate.

  • Day 1: Pick up (after 2 PM) — Free

  • Day 2: Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 3: Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 4: Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 5: Return (by noon) — Free

Multi-day discounts (local equipment rentals only)

Multi-day discounts apply automatically to equipment rentals, but not to vehicle or location rentals.

Weekend discount: Saturday + Sunday count as one shoot day

If your shoot days fall on Saturday and Sunday, you’re only charged for one shoot day.

Example: Weekend shoot with Friday pick-up and Monday return

  • Day 1 (Friday): Pick up — Free

  • Day 2 (Saturday): Shoot day — Charged (1 shoot day)

  • Day 3 (Sunday): Shoot day — Free

  • Day 4 (Monday): Return — Free

Weekly discount (Full-week rule): 6–7 days = 4 shoot days

If you have the gear for 6 to 7 days, you’re only charged for 4 shoot days.

This applies as long as the total rental period stays within 7 days in your possession (based on standard pick-up/return times).

Example: Tuesday pick-up → Monday return (7 days total)

  • Day 1 (Tuesday): Pick up — Free

  • Day 2 (Wednesday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 3 (Thursday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 4 (Friday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 5 (Saturday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 6 (Sunday): Shoot day — Free (weekly discount)

  • Day 7 (Monday): Return — Free

Weekly discount + weekend discount combined

If your rental includes both discounts, ShareGrid applies them together.

Example: Monday pick-up → next Monday return

  • Day 1 (Monday): Pick up — Free

  • Day 2 (Tuesday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 3 (Wednesday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 4 (Thursday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 5 (Friday): Shoot day — Charged

  • Day 6 (Saturday): Shoot day — Free (weekly discount)

  • Day 7 (Sunday): Shoot day — Free (weekend discount)

  • Day 8 (Monday): Return — Free

Full-month discount: 22–31 days = 12 shoot days

For long-term equipment rentals, ShareGrid also offers a monthly discount:

  • If you rent gear for 22 to 31 days, you’ll only be charged for 12 shoot days.

Summary

For equipment rentals, ShareGrid pricing is based on shoot days, with:

  • Free pick-up and drop-off days

  • Weekend discount: Sat + Sun = 1 shoot day

  • Full-week rule: 6–7 days = 4 shoot days

  • Full-month rule: 22–31 days = 12 shoot days
