Changing Coverage on an Existing Rental

How to Cancel and Rebook Your Rental When You Need a Different Coverage Type

Once a rental is booked, the coverage type cannot be changed because it becomes part of the rental agreement. This applies to all ShareGrid coverage options, including Damage + Theft, Damage Only, Short-Term Insurance, Annual Insurance, and Third-Party Insurance.

If you need a different coverage type and have not yet picked up your rental, you must cancel the current booking and rebook with your desired coverage. We recommend messaging the owner first to confirm that they are okay with the change. The good news is that there is no cancellation fee for rebooking due to coverage-related reasons.

If Pickup is More Than 2 Days Away:

1. To cancel your rental, go to your Message Center by clicking the "Mail" icon and selecting the rental you wish to change.

2. Select "Cancel rental."

3. For the cancellation reason, choose "Other" and enter: “Changing coverage type.”

4. Rebook the same gear and dates, selecting your desired coverage at checkout.

If Pickup is Within 2 Days:

Cancellations must be completed by the owner when the pickup date is less than 2 days away.

1. Message the owner in the rental conversation.

2. Ask them to cancel the rental and select "Other" as the reason.

3. Instruct them to write: “Renter to rebook using desired coverage.”

4. Once the owner cancels, rebook the same gear and dates, choosing your desired coverage at checkout.
