Advice and answers from the ShareGrid Team

Though we cannot enforce that you check their ID, yes, you should always ask to check a renter’s government-issued ID. This is to ensure that you are meeting with the right person. If you fail to do so, we cannot guarantee any aid in the case of damage, fraud or theft. ShareGrid always has a copy of both party’s ID’s seeing as they’ve been uploaded prior to renting.

If the renter sends a runner or person to pick up the gear who is not the renter, you need to ask the renter for the runner’s ID info prior to pickup. Once the runner has arrived, you should confirm that the information matches their ID as well as take a picture or make a copy of the runner’s ID for your own records.
