When renting from equipment owners on ShareGrid, selecting a damage waiver or insurance option is essential to ensure the equipment's safety and security. Below is a simplified guide to help you understand and compare the various choices available to ShareGrid renters.

Options at a Glance:

  • Damage Only: Damage Waiver for damages to equipment during the rental period.

  • Damage + Theft: Damage Waiver for damage or theft of equipment during the rental period.

  • Short-Term Insurance: Serviced by our insurance partner, Athos Insurance, this coverage is suitable for short rental periods and offers comprehensive protection.

  • Annual Insurance: Serviced by our insurance partner, Athos Insurance. Year-long coverage. It is ideal for frequent renters or those looking for long-term rentals.

  • Third-Party Insurance: An external insurance option not directly provided by ShareGrid or its partners, but accepted only after completing coverage verification.

Differences Between 'Damage Only' and 'Damage and Theft' Coverage

  • Damage Only Coverage:

    • Provides coverage exclusively for physical damage to the gear.

    • Does not cover theft.

    • Available for rentals with a cumulative replacement value under $6,000.

    • Renters are responsible for paying full replacement costs out of pocket if the gear is lost or stolen.

  • Damage and Theft Coverage:

    • Provides protection against both physical damage and theft if the rental is stolen from the renter.

    • Ensures the renter is not liable for full replacement costs under covered scenarios.

Coverage Options May Vary

Please note that equipment owners can choose to disable certain coverage options, such as Damage Only. If they do, the disabled coverage will not be available as an option for the renter. Renting transactions must be conducted locally with in-person handoffs, as ShareGrid currently does not support shipping options. Damage Only and Damage + Theft coverage do not apply to equipment during shipping or through any unofficial shipping arrangements made outside the platform.

Compliance with ShareGrid Guidelines

Adherence to ShareGrid’s platform guidelines and rental conditions is vital for insurance and protection coverage. Non-compliance, such as shipping equipment or insufficient verification of renter details, can void coverage under ShareGrid’s policies.

  • Will I get a refund if I change my coverage type? Refunds are issued upon successful rebooking of the rental with a new policy.

  • Who is charged for coverage? Coverage costs are reflected in the renter's invoice, not the owner's.
