How to Apply a Student Discount to an Existing Rental

Steps to Cancel, Rebook, and Save

If you’ve already booked a rental on ShareGrid but want to use your student discount, you can still apply it as long as the rental hasn’t started. Here’s how.

Step 1: Check Eligibility

  • The rental must not have started yet.

  • You’ll need to cancel and rebook the rental to apply the discount.

Step 2: Cancel Your Current Rental

  1. Contact the owner – Inform them of your intention to cancel so you can rebook with your student discount.

  2. Request cancellation – The owner should choose “Other” as the reason and note that you’re rebooking with the discount.

  3. No cancellation fee – If you’re canceling for this reason and rebook with the same owner, you won’t be charged a cancellation fee.

Step 3: Activate Your Student Discount

  • Go to Account Settings and make sure your student discount is active.

  • Once it is active, it will automatically be applied to any eligible future rentals.

Step 4: Rebook the Rental

  • Rebook the same items.

  • Your student discount will be applied automatically at checkout.

Refund Details

  • What’s Refunded: Rental cost, taxes, and community fees (when rebooking with the same owner).

  • Exceptions: If any fees aren’t refunded, contact ShareGrid Support to have them corrected.

Important Notes

  • This process only works if the rental period hasn’t begun.

  • Make sure your student discount is active before you rebook.

  • Always have the owner select "other" as the cancellation reason for a smooth refund.
